Sabrina Wottreng Public Relations Announces 2023 Scholarship Recipient

It’s officially fall, and right on cue with the change of colors comes the announcement of our third annual scholarship award winner.

We are thrilled to name Loyola University Chicago Junior Allen Ford III as this year's Sabrina Wottreng Public Relations Scholarship recipient. A communications major, Allen is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in advertising and public relations.

With the $2,000 award, Allen said he will continue his education and commitment to assisting those around him.

“I have dedicated my life to assisting marginalized communities — even experiencing homelessness twice in my life — and now serve as an advocate for America's under-represented identity groups,” Allen said, adding that his connection with SWPR Founder Sabrina Wottreng grew after learning that she was also a first-generation college student.

“I will forever appreciate Sabrina Wottreng for supporting me both financially through her scholarship fund and as a mentor,” he explained. “She embodies the meaning of advocacy by assisting those who have come after her in order to make their journey easier than the one she endured. Sabrina — thank you for everything.”

The SWPR scholarship fund was established in 2021 and aims to assist students at Sabrina’s alma mater — Loyola University Chicago — who are currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in communications. Previous award winners include Ande Perihana, who interned with SWPR before landing a role with Edelman, and Aslan Mutuwa, whose mentorship with Sabrina helped him land an internship with a boutique PR firm before being hired by Publicis Media.

“It is an honor to have the ability to assist up-and-coming communications professionals in their educational journey and serve as the mentor I wish I had early on in my career,” said Sabrina. “Outside of the scholarship, I am available to each of the recipients, helping with everything from resume review to access to my network. I look forward to continuing to contribute to the next generation of communications professionals.”
